Mert Alas was born in Istanbul, Turkey, where he studied classical piano and cello. In 1994 he met Welsh-born Marcus Piggott in England and through their mutual love of art and photography they started collaborating as a photography duo. Dazed & Confused were the first magazine to publish their work. From this start, Mert and Marcus have become names synonymous with some of the most innovative and striking photography seen in recent years.
