After a whirlwind 12 months in 2005 – where special collaborators were invited to guest on the magazine, the celebration of 25 years of i-D culminated in an exhibition at the Fashion & Textile Museum. This i-DENTITY exhibition is the launch of a comprehensive touring exhibition curated by Terry Jones, i-D’s founder, creative director and editor-in-chief. “The revolutionary aesthetic and philosophy of i-D magazine have provided us with a bold monitor of our times,” says Gity Monsef, creative director of the museum. i-DENTITY will go on to visit Beijing, Hong Kong, São Paulo, New York, Paris and Tokyo.

Central to the exhibition is the concept of identity. By appealing to the five senses, expect still images, short films, 3-D sound, graphics and smell from the exhibition. i-DENTITY’s global sponsor, Symrise, have worked with i-D’s scent curators to create unique fragrances that epitomise the five eras that make up the magazine’s history. “Identity is the individual thumbprint to our DNA. Humanity is at the core of i-D’s editorial ethic – to give space to a range of people with contrasting opinions irrespective of religion, colour, nationality or social background,” Terry comments. “With ideas travelling through the web of digital communication faster than at any other time in history, i-D will continue to feature the diverse environment we are privileged to live and work in.”
